About #DecisionDay
The LGBTQ+ community has a long history of community organizing both before and in response to local, state and national court decisions affecting our equality and dignity. In 2010, Marriage Equality USA and others popularized the moniker "Day of Decision" to rally and march in defiance of the California Supreme Court ruling that upheld Proposition 8 and made marriage equality unconstitutional in that state. In the years that followed communities nationwide continued this tradition - often in protest but increasingly in celebration of positive court rulings for the LGBTQ+ community. In 2013 the moniker was shortened to #DecisionDay and utilized to organize around the U.S. Supreme Court cases United States v. Windsor, and again in 2015 around Obergefell v. Hodges.
